The Boston Bruins suffered a lopsided loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Sunday, pushing them to the brink of elimination.

Boston hosted the Sabres on Sunday afternoon in a pivotal Game 4 as the Bruins were down 2-1 in the series. Yet, Boston struggled from the get-go, as Buffalo got out to a 4-0 lead after the first period en route to a lopsided 6-1 loss.

Following the blowout loss, Bruins head coach Marco Sturm called out his team and said it was an embarrassing loss.

“We should be embarrassed because it was embarrassing,” Sturm said postgame on Sunday. “Guys know me, and we’re going to talk about it and analyze this. But at the end of the day, we have to move on, too. I am embarrassed; we all should be. We are all pissed. We’ll talk about it, then we have to move on.”

With the blowout loss, Boston is now down 3-1 in the series to the Sabres and will now need to win three straight games to advance to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Despite having their backs against the wall, Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy said the team has to have a quick reset ahead of Game 5.

“I don’t have any answers right now,” McAvoy said. “It was just an embarrassing performance. We picked a bad time to have one of those. But we’re not out of this thing yet; we’ve got to remember that. We’ve got to reset here quick.”

Game 5 is set for Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. ET in Buffalo.
