The Boston Bruins are shaking up their front office, as assistant general manager Jamie Langenbrunner has decided to step away from the team to explore new opportunities elsewhere. After an 11-year tenure in the organization, the former NHL star is ready to write his next chapter.
In a statement released Thursday, the Bruins confirmed the move: "The Boston Bruins have agreed to allow Jamie Langenbrunner to pursue other opportunities in the National Hockey League. The organization wishes Jamie and his family all the best moving forward."
Langenbrunner first joined the Bruins as a developmental coach before the 2015-16 season, bringing a wealth of on-ice experience to the role. His hockey IQ quickly earned him a promotion to director of player development in 2019-20, where he helped shape the next generation of B's talent. Ahead of the 2022-23 season, he was elevated to assistant general manager, reporting directly to GM Don Sweeney.
In his most recent role, Langenbrunner was a key figure in player personnel decisions, focusing on player identification and pro-side acquisitions. His sharp eye for talent made him a trusted voice in the Bruins' war room. But after more than a decade in Boston, he's now setting his sights on a fresh challenge in another NHL front office.
Before his front-office career, Langenbrunner was a force on the ice. Over 1,109 NHL games with the Dallas Stars, New Jersey Devils, and St. Louis Blues, he racked up 243 goals and 420 assists for 663 points. A two-time Stanley Cup champion and an Olympic silver medalist with Team USA in 2010, his championship pedigree is undeniable.
As the Bruins navigate this change, fans can expect the front office to stay busy—especially with free agency on the horizon. The team is reportedly targeting two defensemen to bolster the blue line.
