With the Toronto Maple Leafs putting together a nightmare 2025-26 season, they fired Brad Treliving from their general manager position last month. They have yet to hire his replacement, but there appears to be a chance that they could end up picking a staff member from the Boston Bruins.

According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, Boston assistant GM and Providence Bruins GM Evan Gold is one of the finalists for the Maple Leafs' general manager gig. Seravalli also shared that New York Rangers GM Ryan Martin is also in the running for Toronto's GM job.

Seeing Gold generating interest from the Maple Leafs this season is not surprising. He helped lead Providence to an impressive 54-16-2 record this season in the AHL and has a good amount of experience.

While the Bruins would undoubtedly love to see Gold stick around with the organization, it would be entirely understandable if he heads to the Maple Leafs if he receives an offer for their GM job. It would give him the chance to lead his own NHL team. However, if he does end up landing the Maple Leafs' GM role, he would have a lot of work to do to try to get them back on track.
