Sonny Styles is the 4th-best player in the draft, says Dane Brugler. That makes him worth the Cowboys moving up to get with a top-6 pick.

The NFL Draft clock is ticking down, and for the Dallas Cowboys, the strategy board is covered in possibilities. With under two weeks until the first round in Pittsburgh, the debate rages: stay put, trade back, or make a bold move up the board? According to one of the most respected voices in the draft community, the Cowboys might be leaning toward aggression for a specific, elite talent.

Dane Brugler of The Athletic, whose annual "The Beast" draft guide is essential reading for front offices and fans alike, has identified a prospect he believes could be too tempting for Dallas to pass up. That player is Ohio State linebacker Sonny Styles, whom Brugler ranks as the fourth-best overall prospect in the entire 2026 class.

Brugler's evaluation paints a picture of a rare athlete, calling Styles a "freaky athlete on track to be an impact linebacker." This high praise comes despite the modern draft trend that often sees linebackers slide out of the very top picks. Last year, the first linebacker wasn't selected until pick 31, and in 2024, it was pick 17. Styles, however, appears to be breaking the mold.

The Cowboys, holding the 6th overall pick, are in a prime position. But Brugler suggests they may not want to wait and see if Styles falls to them. "There's going to be several teams—I'm looking at the Cowboys, specifically, as a team—they're going to be tempted to move up," Brugler stated on *The Rich Eisen Show*.

For a Dallas defense looking to add a dynamic, field-tilting presence, the calculus is clear. Styles was the defensive leader for Ohio State, showcasing sideline-to-sideline speed and playmaking range under coordinator Matt Patricia. Securing a player of his caliber could require a proactive trade, signaling a major commitment to building a championship-caliber unit. For Cowboys fans dreaming of defensive dominance, the next two weeks will be filled with anticipation as this draft-day drama unfolds.
