When Jimmy Haslam bought the Cleveland Browns, he made it clear he'd be hands-on with the team's daily operations. But times are changing. Since taking over the Browns, Haslam's sports portfolio has expanded to include stakes in the MLS's Columbus Crew and the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks—where he owns 25%.
Now, with the Bucks missing the playoffs and parting ways with head coach Doc Rivers, Haslam is shifting his focus. In a recent interview with Cleveland.com, he revealed plans to spend more time in Milwaukee starting in 2026. "Do I think we’ll be here more? I do," Haslam said. "I'm very excited to continue working with GM Jon Horst and build the kind of team this community deserves."
More time in Milwaukee means less time in Cleveland, but that doesn't spell trouble for the Browns. Haslam's son-in-law, JW Johnson, remains deeply involved as a managing partner, ensuring the franchise stays on track. In fact, a split-focused Haslam might be just what the Browns need—less meddling from the owner's box could mean more room for football decisions to be made by the people who know the game best.
Whether this shift leads to better fortunes for the Browns remains to be seen, but one thing's for sure: the Haslam Sports Group is playing the long game across multiple leagues.
