The Cleveland Browns made a quiet but intriguing roster move on Friday, adding depth to their defensive line by claiming veteran defensive tackle Elijah Chatman off the waiver wire. Chatman was recently let go by the New York Giants, and the Browns were quick to scoop him up for their 90-man roster.

Chatman, who went undrafted out of SMU in the 2024 NFL Draft, is entering his third season in the league. Last year, he suited up for all 17 games with the Giants, recording one sack and two tackles for loss. He also appeared in five games as a rookie in 2024. Now, he brings that experience to Cleveland, where he'll look to carve out a role and compete for a spot on the final 53-man roster.

It won't be an easy path, though. The Browns' defensive tackle room is stacked with talent. It's headlined by former top-five pick Mason Graham, steady veteran Maleik Collins, second-round pick Mike Hall Jr., and undrafted standout Adin Huntington, who turned heads last season. Cleveland also signed Kalia Davis in free agency this spring, adding even more competition to the mix.

But in the NFL, you never say never. With a new coaching staff in place, training camp and preseason performances can shake up the depth chart. Chatman has already proven he can play on Sundays, and if he shows the right spark, he could surprise everyone and earn his place on the roster.

For now, Browns fans have another name to watch as the team gears up for the season ahead. Whether Chatman becomes a key rotational piece or a camp standout, this move adds another layer of intrigue to Cleveland's defensive line battle.
