Is a Super Bowl contender just one phone call away from fixing its offensive line? For the Buffalo Bills, the answer might be Joel Bitonio—if the veteran guard decides against retirement.
The longtime Cleveland Browns stalwart appears unlikely to return to Ohio in 2026, but his next move remains uncertain. If Bitonio wants one more shot at glory, Buffalo could offer the perfect landing spot.
ESPN's Aaron Schatz recently identified left guard as the Bills' most glaring need this offseason. After losing David Edwards in free agency, Buffalo faces a question mark at the position. While the team retained center Connor McGovern, the guard spot lacks a proven starter.
"If the Bills want to add one more veteran free agent who can play left guard, a great option would be Joel Bitonio," Schatz wrote. "He spent his entire career in Cleveland and might be willing to sign for less money with an opportunity to pursue a Super Bowl title in Buffalo."
The Bills do have options. Veteran Austin Corbett—who battled injuries in 2023 and 2024 but started 11 games for Carolina last season—is in the mix. Third-year lineman Alec Anderson, who handled extra tight end duties in six-lineman packages, could also compete. And Buffalo used a fourth-round pick on Jude Bowry, a tackle prospect some project to move inside.
But Bitonio would simplify everything. Still playing at a high level, he brings a decade of experience and Pro Bowl pedigree. And geographically, the move makes sense: trading one Lake Erie shoreline for another, from Cleveland to Buffalo.
For a Bills team with championship aspirations, adding a player of Bitonio's caliber could be the missing piece—if he decides to keep playing at all.
