Browns' Harold Fannin Jr. faces pivotal Todd Monken question ahead of year two

This is going to be a big test for Fannin in his second season.

The Cleveland Browns hit a home run with their 2025 draft class, and Harold Fannin Jr. was one of the brightest stars in that group. Now, heading into his second season, the standout tight end faces a critical question that could define his entire year: How will he fit into Todd Monken's new offense?

Last season, Fannin burst onto the scene with an impressive stat line—72 catches for 731 yards and six touchdowns. That production not only turned heads but actually surpassed the best season any tight end posted under Monken during his time as offensive coordinator in Baltimore. For context, Mark Andrews' most productive year under Monken was 55 catches for 673 yards in 2024.

But here's where things get interesting. The Browns just brought in Monken as their new head coach, and his offensive philosophy is a significant shift from Kevin Stefanski's approach. While Monken certainly got solid play from tight ends like Andrews and Isaiah Likely with the Ravens, the numbers suggest he doesn't feature the position as heavily as Fannin's rookie success might require.

ESPN's Ben Solak put it bluntly: "There's no doubt Monken got good play out of two tight ends in Baltimore. But over his five years as an NFL offensive coordinator, his most productive tight end was Andrews in 2024."

That's a legitimate concern for Fannin, whose explosive rookie campaign was built on being a focal point of the passing attack. However, there's reason for optimism. If Monken taps into the same creativity he used with Brock Bowers at Georgia—where the tight end was a matchup nightmare—Cleveland's second-year star could be in for another monster season.

There's no questioning Fannin's talent. He's already proven he's one of the most dynamic young tight ends in the league. The real test in year two is whether Monken's system will let him shine just as brightly.
