Brooks Koepka has been searching for something.
Ever since he lifted the Wanamaker Trophy at the 2023 PGA Championship at Oak Hill, the four-time major champion has been on a quest—not just for another title, but for the feeling that made him one of golf's most feared competitors. That week in Rochester, everything clicked: his health, his swing, his nerves. He was back to being the major-killing machine the golf world had come to expect.
But the road since then has been anything but smooth. After jumping to LIV Golf, Koepka watched his game slowly unravel. His 2024 and 2025 major performances fell well short of his elite standard, and his putting became a source of deep frustration. Off the course, the global travel schedule kept him away from his family, and he and his wife, Jena Sims, tragically suffered a miscarriage last year. The desire to be closer to his loved ones became the driving force behind his return to the PGA Tour in January.
"Just my family. A lot's gone on over the past five, six months with my family. That played a big role into coming back," Koepka said at Torrey Pines earlier this year.
With Sims and their young son, Crew, now able to travel more as Koepka plays stateside, the five-time major winner has quietly been building his game back piece by piece. The putter has remained a sticking point, and he hasn't yet played his way into the Signature Events, but he's been close—and the progress has been undeniable.
Then, on Saturday at the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic—a tournament that likely wasn't even on his radar at the start of the season—it all finally came together. Koepka shot a stunning back-nine 29 to vault into contention, marking his first 29 on the PGA Tour since the CJ Cup at Nine Bridges in 2019. More importantly, it gave him back something he's been missing for far too long.
"That's the most excited I've been playing golf in a long, long time," Koepka said after his round. "I would say back until '23, the PGA. That's the most—it's been a long time since."
For golf fans and gear enthusiasts alike, this is the Brooks Koepka we've been waiting to see—confident, explosive, and ready for the biggest stage. And with the PGA Championship just around the corner, the timing couldn't be more perfect.
