"It ensures that there’s going to be a steady flow to practice," Broncos coach Sean Payton said of hosting veteran QB Nathan Peterman at rookie camp.

The Denver Broncos have decided not to sign veteran quarterback Nathan Peterman following his tryout at the team's rookie minicamp over the weekend, according to KUSA-TV's Mike Klis. At 32 years old, Peterman served as a classic "camp arm," brought in to ensure the offense ran smoothly during the developmental sessions.

"It's always helpful if you can get a veteran because you don't know how it's going to be for the rookie," Broncos head coach Sean Payton explained on Saturday. Payton, a former quarterback himself, knows the challenges rookies face firsthand. "When you get a veteran, if you're able to, it ensures that there's going to be a steady flow to practice because you don't know if you're going to have freaking Sean Payton over here that can't break the huddle and figure out what formation is which," he added with a laugh. "Dead serious, it can slow down your whole practice if you can't get the quarterback-center exchange, if you can't call the play in the huddle. So he's someone that's had a ton of experience at that."

Peterman, who has suited up for five different NFL teams over six seasons and appeared in 15 games, handled his role well at the rookie camp. However, the Broncos ultimately opted not to bring him onto the roster. For fans looking to rep their team, it's a reminder that every player—from star quarterbacks to camp arms—plays a part in building a winning culture, and that spirit of preparation is what makes game day gear so meaningful.
