The Denver Broncos have made their call on adding another quarterback after this weekend's rookie minicamp—and for now, they're sticking with what they've got.

During the camp, the team brought in two signal-callers for tryouts: veteran Nathan Peterman and undrafted rookie E.J. Warner. Both gave it their all, but the Broncos have decided not to sign either one at this point. That doesn't mean the door is completely shut, though.

Head coach Sean Payton had plenty of praise for both players. He noted that Peterman was "fantastic" at calling out plays during his tryout, and Broncos insider Mike Klis even called him "overqualified" for minicamp, saying he looked sharp. If Denver ever wants to add a seasoned veteran—even just for training camp and preseason depth—Peterman remains a solid option to circle back to.

As for Warner, the son of Hall of Famer Kurt Warner, his tryout turned heads mostly because of his pedigree, but Payton sees real potential beyond the name. He compared Warner to Chase Daniel, the longtime backup who played behind Drew Brees in New Orleans. That's high praise from a coach who knows a thing or two about grooming quarterbacks.

So why the hesitation? It likely comes down to the team's confidence in Bo Nix's ankle rehab. With Nix recovering, the Broncos want to maximize reps for Jarrett Stidham and Sam Ehlinger this summer. Adding another arm could cut into that development time.

If either Peterman or Warner does get a call later, it would probably be for a practice squad spot. Warner also tried out for the Kansas City Chiefs, so other teams might be interested too. For now, the Broncos are content to roll with their current QB room—but they've kept the welcome mat out just in case.
