Brian Kelly is turning to artificial intelligence to help script his next chapter. The former LSU head coach, who was fired midway through the 2025-26 season after a tough home loss to Texas A&M, has been using tools like Claude to prepare for his return to the sidelines.

In a recent conversation with USA Today, Kelly reflected on his tenure in Baton Rouge and what went wrong. "I didn't win enough games," he admitted. "There's a longer answer to why that didn't happen — I'll probably have to write a book about that."

But the numbers tell a more nuanced story. During his time at LSU, Kelly posted a 34-14 record, including an impressive 22-3 mark at home. He led the Tigers to two 10-win seasons, an SEC West Division championship, and watched his offense become the No. 1 unit in college football while producing a Heisman Trophy winner. "When you look at what is winning and what keeps you employed, other people make those decisions," Kelly said. "Unfortunately, it wasn't defined as enough winning leading into being fired."

Now, about six months removed from his LSU exit, Kelly is actively plotting his comeback — and he's using modern technology to do it. "Every day, I'm trying to do my due diligence using Claude and AI, asking questions to build some of those answers that I think can be helpful for me as I get in front of an athletic director," he told USA Today.

While it may be too late in the hiring cycle for Kelly to land a head coaching gig this season, all signs point to him returning to the college football sidelines in 2026. For fans and athletic directors alike, it will be fascinating to see how his AI-assisted preparation translates into his next opportunity.
