Brian Barber, who led Monrovia to first winning season in six years, steps down after one season. Former Danville coach has 515 career victories.

In a move that has caught the local basketball community by surprise, Brian Barber has stepped down as the boys' basketball coach at Monrovia after just one season at the helm. Despite the brief tenure, Barber made an immediate impact, guiding the Bulldogs to a solid 14-9 record—the program's first winning season in six years, dating back to 2019-20.

Barber, a seasoned veteran with a remarkable 515-201 career record over 30 seasons, is no stranger to success. He spent 26 of those years at Danville, where he amassed 462 wins, 12 sectional championships, and four regional titles. Before that, he began his head coaching career with a three-year stint at Riverton Parke. His decision to leave Monrovia comes as he looks to "pursue other career interests," as he stated in a heartfelt farewell.

"We want to thank the administration, coaches, parents, fans, trainers, managers, maintenance and custodian workers, and especially the players for a great season," Barber said, reflecting on his time with the Bulldogs.

The coaching carousel in Indiana high school basketball continues to spin, as Monrovia now joins Park Tudor and Zionsville in the search for a new boys' basketball head coach. For a program that had struggled in recent years, Barber's brief but successful stint leaves big shoes to fill—and a renewed sense of hope for the next leader to build upon.
