Just three weeks after making a trade with the San Francisco Giants, the Milwaukee Brewers have cut ties with the player they acquired in exchange for cash considerations.

On Friday, the NL Central club announced that infielder/outfielder Luis Matos was designated for assignment. Utility man Tyler Black was recalled in a corresponding move.

"If Matos lands somewhere else, he will need to be on the active roster, due to his out-of-options status," Darragh McDonald of MLB Trade Rumors wrote Friday. "He has between one and two years of service time. If he does click on another roster, he can be controlled for four seasons after this one. If he were to clear waivers, the Brewers could keep him as non-roster depth."

Matos was once a highly touted prospect with the Giants and became close friends with Brewers outfielder Jackson Chourio during his teenage years in Venezuela.

Handed 21 plate appearances, Matos failed to make the most of the opportunity with the Brewers. He hit just .200/.238/.200 with four hits and a .438 OPS.

Black has 23 games of Major League experience since 2024 and began the year at Triple-A Nashville, hitting .282/.378/.410 with one homer in 10 games.
