The Milwaukee Brewers made a series of roster moves on Monday that signal a major offensive upgrade. The club has activated outfielder Jackson Chourio and first baseman Andrew Vaughn from the 10-day Injured List, while designating utility player Greg Jones for assignment.
To make room for the returning bats, the Brewers also optioned outfielder Blake Perkins to Triple-A Nashville. This shuffle brings the team closer to its full-strength lineup after weeks of relying on fill-in players.
The timing couldn't be better for a Brewers offense that has been searching for consistency. While the team has shown flashes of brilliance—including a pair of double-digit scoring games recently—those performances have been balanced by too many quiet nights at the plate. The hope is that Chourio and Vaughn provide the stability this lineup desperately needs.
Chourio, just 22 years old, hasn't played a regular-season game yet this year after fracturing his hand late in spring training. His rehab assignment was short, spanning only three minor league games, but he showed good plate discipline despite limited contact. Milwaukee is counting on the young outfielder to quickly rediscover the dynamic form he's flashed in prior seasons.
Vaughn's return follows a similar path. The first baseman also saw minimal action during his rehab assignment, but he was swinging the bat well before his injury. After joining the Brewers last season, Vaughn became a key contributor down the stretch, delivering a surge in offensive production that carried into the postseason. His strong spring before surgery only raised expectations for what he can bring back to the lineup.
To accommodate these moves, the Brewers parted ways with Jones, a former first-round pick who struggled to find his footing in limited big-league opportunities. Despite his athleticism and speed—long considered his top assets—Jones appeared in only a handful of games and had difficulty making consistent contact. For now, the Brewers are betting on the proven production of Chourio and Vaughn to anchor their lineup through the crucial stretch ahead.
