Chourio's status, however, was less certain. The 22-year-old outfielder fouled a ball off his foot and ankle during his final rehab appearance on May 2, causing him to exit the game early. Fortunately, X-rays came back negative, and after completing a series of running and agility drills with the Brewers' training staff at Busch Stadium, he was given the green light to play.

Chourio's journey back to the lineup has been particularly challenging. He initially suffered a hairline fracture in his left hand during a World Baseball Classic exhibition game on March 4. What was first reported as a bruise turned out to be structural damage in his middle finger, a revelation that didn't come to light until the eve of opening day. Though the Brewers initially projected a two-to-four-week recovery, Chourio's return on May 4 marks nearly six weeks on the sidelines.

To make room for both players, the Brewers optioned outfielder Blake Perkins to Nashville and designated infielder Greg Jones for assignment.

The timing of these activations is critical for Milwaukee's offense, which currently ranks second-to-last in the majors with just 22 home runs and has managed only four dingers over its previous 17 games.
