Turang has quietly become a big-time slugger over the last few months.

When Brice Turang was drafted 21st overall by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2018, the scouting reports all said the same thing: elite glove, developing bat. Fast forward to today, and that script has been completely flipped.

The California high school standout, who originally committed to LSU before the Brewers came calling, made his MLB debut on Opening Day 2023. He showed promise as a rookie, but it was 2024 when he truly arrived—winning his first Gold Glove Award while batting .254. For two seasons, his defense was his calling card. His bat? A work in progress.

But somewhere late last season, something clicked. And now, Turang has crashed MLB.com's latest power hitter rankings at No. 7.

Through 37 games this season, Turang is slashing an impressive .295/.414/.504 with six home runs and 26 RBIs. He's on pace to shatter his career-high 18 homers from last season. According to MLB.com, "since the beginning of August, his 170 wRC+ trails only Judge, Rice and Langeliers among qualified batters. This season, Turang's barrel rate, hard-hit rate and average exit velocity are all well above the Major League median."

Perhaps most remarkably, his .424 on-base percentage is tied for the best in the Majors with Baltimore's Taylor Ward. For a player once known primarily for his glove, that's a stunning transformation.

This offensive surge couldn't have come at a better time for the Brewers. With Christian Yelich sidelined by a hamstring injury, Turang has been a driving force keeping Milwaukee in the thick of the NL Central race. From Gold Glove defender to legitimate power threat—sometimes the best trades are the ones you make within yourself.
