Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Brandon Woodruff has gone on the injured list one day after a reduction in his velocity caused him to leave a game in the second inning. The Brewers announced Friday that the two-time All-Star was going on the 15-day injured list due to right shoulder inflammation. The Brewers recalled right-hander Easton McGee from Triple-A Nashville before beginning a three-game series with the Washington Nationals.

The Milwaukee Brewers have placed two-time All-Star pitcher Brandon Woodruff on the 15-day injured list due to right shoulder inflammation, the team announced Friday. The move comes one day after a noticeable drop in velocity forced Woodruff to exit his start against the Arizona Diamondbacks in the second inning.

During Thursday's 13-1 blowout win, none of Woodruff's 21 pitches exceeded 86.9 mph—a far cry from his season average of 92.5 mph. His fastball, which averaged around 96 mph as recently as 2023, sat at just 85.4 mph in the outing. When Brewers coaches and trainers checked on him with a 1-0 count on Nolan Arenado, Woodruff left the game, though he downplayed any serious injury concerns.

"He doesn't feel like he's injured," manager Pat Murphy said after the game. "He said, 'My arm's dead. Nothing's coming out.' I think we just have to be really cautious here."

This marks another chapter in a challenging injury history for the 33-year-old right-hander. Woodruff missed the 2024 season entirely after undergoing shoulder surgery, then returned midway through last year to post a stellar 7-2 record with a 3.20 ERA in 12 starts. He also dealt with a lat strain that sidelined him during Milwaukee's run to the NL Championship Series last postseason. Despite the setbacks, Woodruff accepted a $22.025 million qualifying offer to remain with the Brewers this season rather than test free agency. Through six starts in 2025, he holds a 2-1 record and a 3.60 ERA.

To fill Woodruff's spot on the roster, the Brewers have recalled right-hander Easton McGee from Triple-A Nashville. The 28-year-old has pitched one scoreless inning for Milwaukee this season and carries a 3-1 record with a 6.39 ERA in eight games at Nashville. He joins the team as they open a three-game series against the Washington Nationals.
