Brentford are close to agreeing a deal worth £12m, plus a further £4m in add-ons, to sign defender Jannik Schuster from Austrian club Salzburg.

Brentford FC are on the verge of securing a major defensive signing, as they close in on a £16 million deal for Austrian starlet Jannik Schuster from Red Bull Salzburg. The transfer, valued at an initial £12 million with an additional £4 million in performance-related add-ons, represents the Bees' ambition to strengthen their squad for a historic push toward European football.

The 19-year-old Austria Under-21 international is set to undergo a medical in west London before officially joining the Premier League side this summer. Schuster has already made a significant impact at Salzburg this season, featuring in 28 appearances across all competitions. His experience includes a substitute appearance in the Champions League qualifying stages and several starts in the Europa League, showcasing his readiness for top-flight action.

Schuster's current club, Salzburg, remain locked in a fierce battle for the Austrian Bundesliga title as they head into the end-of-season play-offs. They face LASK Linz on Sunday evening, with Schuster potentially playing a key role in their championship chase before making the switch to England.

For Brentford, the timing couldn't be better. As they prepare for a challenging away fixture against Manchester City in one of their final three Premier League matches, the Bees are still in contention for a club-record finish. Under manager Keith Andrews in his debut season at the helm, the team is eyeing European qualification for the first time in their history—a milestone that would cap off an extraordinary campaign.

This signing signals Brentford's intent to build a squad capable of competing at the highest level, blending youth and experience as they aim to make their mark on the European stage.
