In a turnaround season for Huntsville boys’ soccer, opposing coaches took notice of just how special it was.

The Hornets took home two superlatives, with senior Anthony Bravo taking home the marquee district MVP honors. Head coach Robert Taylor was also awarded Coach of the Year after Huntsville went from winless in district play to a share of the district crown.

Bravo was voted the MVP after switching roles to a defensive player for the Hornets; he would tack on three goals to his resume.

Taylor helped the team to seven wins in district play and a return to the Class 5A postseason after a year-long absence.

Huntsville saw four other members land on the District 17-5A honors with Kendle Burns, Kolton Kauffman, Samuel Martinez and Adrian Ortiz taking home the honors.

Burns was the goalie for Huntsville and played nearly every minute in goal for the Hornets. Burns averaged 3.1 saves per game, totaling 37 in district play. He allowed seven goals and had seven shutouts in district play.

Ortiz tabbed three goals and five assists for the Hornets to land the first team honors.

Martinez scored two goals and set up one, while Kauffman had one assist for Huntsville.

Cristian Jandres, Jesus Rodriguez, Jacob Santibanez and Darwin Varela all landed on the second team.

Santibanez and Jandres headlined the group with six goals each for Huntsville.

Fredy Moreno and Edwin Otero-Rivas were both honorable mentions.

Off the pitch and in the classroom, Huntsville also found plenty of success.

Marco Alvarado, Dylan Ascencio, Joel Borbor, Kendle Burns, Caleb Culak, Kolton Kauffman, Nolan Robertson, Bryson Thomas and Gregorio Varela each met the qualifications for the honors.

Huntsville finished the season tied for the district championship and completely turned the ship around. Their season came to a close in the bi-district round of the Class 5A, DII playoffs in a 1-0 decision to Crosby.
