Sometimes, a player impacts a game without even swinging the bat. That was the case for Rome Emperors' Eric Hartman, who delivered one of the most memorable defensive plays of the young season.

Hartman, already turning heads as a breakout candidate in 2026, added another highlight to his growing resume. While his early double drove in a run for Rome, it was his spectacular leaping catch at the wall—robbing what would have been a three-run home run—that proved to be the game's defining moment. That single play shifted momentum and helped the Emperors escape with a narrow victory.

Elsewhere in the Braves' minor league system, Alex Lodise went deep, and Derek Vartanian continues to impress in his professional debut, showing poise beyond his years.

Gwinnett Stripers: A Tough Day at the Office

It wasn't the prettiest outing for the Gwinnett Stripers, who dropped a game where bright spots were few and far between. Starter Victor Mederos looked sharp through the first three innings, but things unraveled quickly the second time through the Durham lineup. A dip in velocity in the later frames proved costly, as Mederos surrendered three runs—including two home runs—and allowed three batted balls over 100 mph in the fifth inning alone. He finished with a line of 4.2 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, and 2 K, leaving the game with his team in a hole.

The bullpen couldn't stop the bleeding, allowing four more runs over the next 2.1 innings. The deficit proved too much for the Stripers' offense to overcome.

One bright note: reliever Daysbel Hernandez turned in a scoreless inning, averaging his highest fastball velocity of the season. It marks his fourth consecutive scoreless appearance, a promising sign after a rough start to the year. Over his last 6.2 innings, Hernandez has allowed just one run while striking out nine—though his velocity remains slightly below his levels from the past two seasons.

Offensive Struggles

Scoring runs was a chore for Gwinnett, who managed no extra-base hits and went 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position. The two bright spots came from the players you'd most want to see succeed: Nacho Alvarez and Jim Jarvis. Alvarez collected two hits and showed the kind of contact skills that make him a prospect to watch, while Jarvis continued to grind out quality at-bats in a lineup that desperately needed a spark.
