High school baseball fans in Sioux Falls were treated to a thrilling doubleheader Monday at Harmodon Park, as second-ranked Brandon Valley and Lincoln split a pair of back-and-forth contests that showcased the best of South Dakota prep baseball.
In the opener, the Lynx seized control early, building a commanding 8-1 lead after a five-run rally in the fourth inning. Lincoln's bats stayed hot throughout, ultimately securing an 11-5 victory to draw first blood in the twin bill.
But the Patriots showed their resilience in game two, refusing to let history repeat itself. Brandon Valley once again jumped out to an 8-1 advantage, looking poised to cruise to a sweep. However, Lincoln had other plans. The Patriots erupted for six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, then added four more in the sixth to complete a stunning comeback and earn an 11-9 win.
The split keeps both teams in the hunt as the season heats up, proving that in South Dakota high school baseball, no lead is ever safe. Whether you're hitting the diamond or cheering from the stands, games like these remind us why we love America's pastime.
