Apr. 22—Brandon Phillips will sign a ceremonial one-day contract Saturday, April 25, to retire with the Cincinnati Reds.

Phillips, who will be inducted into the Reds Hall of Fame this weekend along with Aaron Harang, Reggie Sanders and Lou Piniella, spent 11 of 17 seasons with the Reds. He last played in the big leagues in 2018 with the Boston Red Sox and last played Minor League Baseball in 2022.

"Brandon Phillips was an incredible baseball player. He brought a style and personality that Reds fans absolutely loved," said Phil Castellini, Reds President & CEO, in a press release. "He was a cornerstone of our club and one of the most dynamic players in the game. The connection he built with this city was real and retiring him as a Red is our chance to honor that unforgettable relationship."

Phillips made the All-Star team three times (2010, 2011 and 2013) with the Reds and won four Gold Gloves (2008, 2010, 2011 and 2013) at second base. He played in Cincinnati from 2006-16, hitting .279. He hit 191 of his 211 career home runs with the Reds.

The Reds acquired Phillips in April 2006 in a trade with the Indians. He started for National League Central Division championship teams in 2010 and 2012 and a wild-card winner in 2013. He stayed with the Reds until they traded him to the Atlanta Braves in February 2017.

Phillips will speak with Reds TV broadcaster Jim Day after the game on Friday at Great American Ball Park.

Phillips will sign the contract at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Lexus Diamond Club annex and then will participate in a press conference.
