RIP Brandon Clarke.

The basketball world is mourning a devastating loss. Brandon Clarke, the beloved forward for the Memphis Grizzlies, passed away on Tuesday afternoon at the age of 29, as first reported by ESPN's Shams Charania.

Clarke's journey to the NBA was nothing short of inspiring. After two challenging seasons at San Jose State—where his three-point shot was broken—he transferred to Gonzaga. A redshirt year gave him time to regroup, and he blossomed into a dynamic player, ultimately being selected with the No. 21 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. He would go on to spend all seven of his professional seasons in Memphis, becoming a fan favorite for his high-energy play and relentless hustle.

Unfortunately, Clarke's promising career was repeatedly derailed by injuries. He appeared in just two games this season. His battle with health setbacks included a torn left Achilles tendon in March 2023, a PCL sprain in his right knee in 2025, and a persistent calf strain. Just before this season, he was also dealing with knee synovitis.

Off the court, Clarke faced legal troubles last month, when he was arrested on charges including possession of a controlled substance, fleeing police, and speeding. The news of his passing comes as a profound shock to the Grizzlies organization, his teammates, and the entire NBA community.

Born in Vancouver, Canada, in 1996, Clarke's legacy will be remembered for his resilience and the joy he brought to the game. His cause of death has not yet been released, and this story will be updated as more information becomes available. For now, the league pauses to remember a talent taken far too soon.
