The Dallas Cowboys signed kicker Brandon Aubrey to a historic extension earlier this offseason, but the deal has already been matched by an AFC kicker.

The NFL's kicking market just saw a massive shift, and it all started with a record-breaking deal in Dallas. This offseason, the Cowboys locked up their star kicker Brandon Aubrey with a historic four-year, $28 million extension—making him the highest-paid kicker in league history. But as any sports fan knows, records in the NFL are made to be broken, and this one barely had time to settle.

Aubrey has been nothing short of phenomenal since joining the Cowboys in 2023. He's earned Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors in each of his first three seasons, and his leg strength is legendary: he's connected on 35 of 44 field goal attempts from 50 yards or beyond. That kind of consistency from distance is a game-changer, and Dallas made sure to reward him accordingly with an average of $7 million per year.

But just weeks later, another AFC powerhouse decided to even the score. The Pittsburgh Steelers have matched Aubrey's landmark deal, signing veteran kicker Chris Boswell to the exact same terms: a four-year, $28 million extension that ties him with Aubrey for the highest-paid kicker in NFL history, as first reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter. The new contract locks Boswell in through the 2030 season, ensuring stability for a franchise that knows the value of a reliable leg.

Boswell, now 35, has been with the Steelers since 2015 and seems to be improving with age. His 2024 season was nothing short of elite: he earned first-team All-Pro honors by leading the NFL with 41 field goals made at a staggering 93.2% success rate. In 2025, he kept rolling, hitting 84.4% of his kicks (27 of 32) and going 9 for 11 from 50 yards plus. That kind of deep-range accuracy is what makes him a perfect match for Aubrey's deal.

Both kickers are at the top of their game, and it's no surprise they're now tied as the highest-paid at their position. The key difference? Age. At 31, Aubrey is four years younger than Boswell, which means he could be in line for another massive payday down the road—if he keeps delivering those clutch, long-range kicks. For now, though, the kicking market just got a whole lot more interesting, and both the Cowboys and Steelers have secured their specialists for the long haul.
