Indiana State football has a new face under center, and he's a familiar name to Indiana high school football fans. Graduate transfer quarterback Brady Allen is settling into his new home in Terre Haute, bringing a unique blend of size, experience, and local pedigree to the Sycamores' offense.
Standing at an imposing 6-foot-6 and 225 pounds, the Fort Branch native and Gibson Southern High School legend arrives with impressive credentials. Allen led his high school to the 2021 3A state championship and earned the coveted Indiana Mr. Football award, cementing his status as one of the state's most celebrated prep talents.
His collegiate journey has been a quest for playing time, taking him from Purdue to Louisville before landing at ISU. While his statistical opportunities were limited at his previous stops—seeing action in a handful of games and throwing his first career touchdown pass at Louisville—the experience gained in those Power Five programs is invaluable. Now, he's competing for the starting job, looking to translate that knowledge into on-field production for the Sycamores.
Head coach Curt Mallory is pleased with how Allen is integrating into the team. "He's right where he should be," Mallory told the Tribune-Star. "He's in there competing." The coach praised Allen's maturity and grounded nature, noting that the quarterback is still learning the offense but has fit seamlessly into the team's culture alongside other successful transfers.
The upcoming season presents an immediate highlight for Allen: a September 5th road trip to face his former team, the Purdue Boilermakers. "It’ll be cool to go up against those guys," Allen said, acknowledging he still has friends on the Purdue roster. That matchup, following a season opener against Southeast Missouri State, will be a true test for the Sycamores and a personal milestone for their new quarterback.
For Allen, the transfer was ultimately about opportunity. "I felt like I wasn’t getting that and so that was a big reason for me getting in the portal," he explained. "Just wanted an opportunity to compete." Now, as he battles with returning starter Elijah Owens for the QB1 role, he has that chance. Whether he's taking the first snap or providing depth, Brady Allen's journey has brought him home, adding an intriguing new chapter to Indiana State's 2025 campaign.
