Kyle Bradish pitched six one-hit innings, Adley Rutschman homered and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Yankees 7-0 on Wednesday after New York lost left-hander Max Fried to a sore elbow. The Yankees outscored the Orioles 39-10 while sweeping four straight from them earlier this month, but Baltimore rebounded by taking two of three in this series. Wednesday was the first shutout of the season for the Orioles, who were the final team to pitch one.

After getting swept by the Yankees earlier this month—where New York outscored them 39-10 in four games—the Baltimore Orioles flipped the script in emphatic fashion Wednesday night. Kyle Bradish was electric, tossing six innings of one-hit ball, and Adley Rutschman crushed a home run as the Orioles blanked the Yankees 7-0 to take two of three in the series.

The game started on a sour note for New York when left-hander Max Fried (4-3) was pulled after just three innings due to a sore elbow. He allowed three runs (two earned) and is set to be examined by the team physician Thursday. Fried's early exit opened the door for Baltimore's offense, which had been quiet in recent meetings with their division rivals.

Blaze Alexander was the spark plug at the bottom of the order, collecting three hits and scoring twice. He led off the third inning with a bunt single, advanced on a throwing error by Fried, and later scored on a Rutschman sacrifice fly. Pete Alonso followed with an RBI single to make it 3-0, giving Bradish all the support he needed.

Bradish (2-5) was in control from the start, carrying a no-hitter into the fifth inning. He struck out seven and walked three, building on his impressive outing last week when he fanned 10 Athletics. Wednesday marked the Orioles' first shutout of the season—they were the last team in baseball to pitch one—and it came at a perfect time against a red-hot Yankees lineup.

Rutschman added insurance in the fifth with a two-run homer that just nicked off right fielder Spencer Jones' glove before clearing the wall. Alexander capped the scoring in the sixth with a two-run single, making it 7-0. Anthony Volpe, playing his first game since being recalled from the minors, went 0-for-3 with an error.

Both teams have Thursday off before heading in different directions. The Yankees (5-1) travel to face the crosstown Mets, with Cam Schlittler starting the opener. The Orioles head to Washington, where Shane Baz (1-4) takes the mound Friday night. For Baltimore, this series win is a statement—proving they can hang with the best after a tough stretch.
