The Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA) boys track and field championships are set to electrify Warwick Valley High School on May 15-16, 2026. This two-day showdown promises top-tier competition as athletes battle for conference supremacy.
Day one delivered thrilling action, with five finals already in the books and several preliminary events setting the stage for Saturday's championship round. Warwick's pole vault tradition continued its remarkable run, as Klaus Lindenau soared to victory at 14 feet 6 inches—marking the 11th time in the past 13 meets that a Warwick vaulter has claimed the title. Teammate Leo Shostal dominated the distance events, winning the 3,200-meter run in an impressive 9:21.41.
Field events saw standout performances across the board. Monticello's Senecere Wall-Thomas launched the discus an astounding 159 feet 10 inches, winning by more than five feet. In the non-scoring javelin event, Beacon's Jayden Mihalchik showed his arm strength with a winning toss of 136 feet 4 inches, a full ten feet ahead of the competition.
Valley Central's relay squad set the pace in the 3,200-meter relay, clocking 7:57.34 to take the win. The sprints are shaping up to be fiercely contested, with Minisink Valley's Maximillian Wickrath leading the 100-meter prelims at 10.90 seconds, while teammate Robert Labarbera topped the 200-meter prelims with a blistering 21.59.
Saturday's finals promise more fireworks, especially in the middle distances where seeded athletes are already posting eye-catching times. Washingtonville's Cameron Snyder enters the 400-meter final as the top seed at 47.74, while Goshen's Shaun Brenner leads the 1,600-meter field with a seed time of 4:19.55. With Warwick's distance duo of Shostal and Brenner set to clash again, and relay teams vying for podium spots, the OCIAA championships are shaping up to be a must-see event for track and field enthusiasts.
