Abington Heights, the undefeated and dominant team in the Lackawanna League, defends its Class 3A crown as the No. 1 seed. The District 2 Team Tennis Championships are finally here, and after a weather-delayed regular season, the action kicks off Friday afternoon with plenty of excitement in store. Defending champions are ready to defend their turf, and the competition is heating up as teams battle for supremacy.

In Class 3A, all eyes are on Abington Heights, the undefeated powerhouse from the Lackawanna League. The Comets (12-0) are the No. 1 seed and have been absolutely dominant, winning their 12th straight tournament title and shutting out every opponent this season. They'll host No. 8 seed Scranton (2-10) at 4 p.m., and with an undefeated singles lineup—Prayush Mallaiah, William Arp, and Brady Comstock—who haven't dropped a set all year, the Comets look nearly unstoppable.

Over in Class 2A, Wyoming Seminary (12-0) is the reigning champion and also enters with a perfect record, having won every match by shutout. They'll host North Pocono (7-6) on Monday at 4 p.m., after North Pocono earned their spot by winning a play-in match against Lake-Lehman on Thursday. The Blue Knights will need to bring their A-game to challenge Seminary's depth.

Friday's quarterfinals are packed with intriguing matchups. In Class 3A, No. 2 seed Valley View (11-4) hosts No. 7 Delaware Valley (3-12) at 4 p.m., while No. 3 Crestwood (7-5) takes on No. 6 West Scranton (3-8). No. 4 Hazleton Area (5-7) welcomes No. 5 Wyoming Valley West (4-8) in what should be a tightly contested battle. Valley View has been hot lately, winning four of their last five matches after a tough 5-0 loss to Abington Heights on April 15.

In Class 2A, second-seeded Holy Cross (11-1) faces borough-rival Dunmore (7-4) at the University of Scranton at 4 p.m. The Crusaders boast a formidable singles lineup—Alex Harrison, Ray Zhang, and Alfred Butts all have 11-1 records—and they've already beaten Dunmore 4-1 this season. No. 3 Dallas (11-1) hosts No. 6 MMI Prep (10-4) at 3:30 p.m., while No. 4 Tunkhannock (11-3) takes on No. 5 Honesdale (12-3) at 4 p.m. Tunkhannock earned their high seed with a 4-1 win over Honesdale back in April.

The semifinals and finals will take place on Tuesday at Kirby Park, with Class 2A starting at 11:30 a.m. and the final at 2:15 p.m. Class 3A semifinals follow at 1 p.m., with the championship match at 3 p.m. After the team tournament wraps up, the District 2 Singles Championships begin Thursday, with Class 3A at Wilkes University and Class 2A at Kirby Park, both starting at 9 a.m. Semifinals and finals are set for Friday.

For tennis fans and players alike, this week is the ultimate test of skill, endurance, and teamwork. Whether you're cheering for the dominant Comets or an underdog looking to make a run, the courts at Kirby Park will be the place to be. Get your gear ready and enjoy the ride!
