The Minnesota Vikings made a bold move this offseason when they traded Jonathan Greenard to the Philadelphia Eagles during the NFL Draft, and now the star pass rusher is opening up about why it happened. In a revealing interview on Green Light with Chris Long, Greenard confirmed what many fans suspected: the emergence of rookie sensation Dallas Turner made him expendable.

"Next person up now is Dallas Turner," Greenard said. "When he's on and he's dialed in on the game plan, the kid is a bottle of explosion. The guy is literally a 4.4 (40-yard dash) guy, and he's only just breaking the surface of how he's going to be in this league."

The Vikings' defense will look significantly different without Greenard, who was a key piece of their pass rush. But the writing was on the wall after Turner flashed serious potential last season. Now, with Greenard heading to Philadelphia, the edge rusher position in Minnesota belongs to the young star.

Greenard didn't hold back his admiration for Turner, promising to keep mentoring him from afar. "I'm watching real close. I'm still going to be talking to him the same way—'listen, XYZ has to happen or this is not going to happen.' Just the little, small things you got to have when you're dealing with a young guy like that."

He added, "They don't know what they don't know yet. And I think that's the part where he's going to take this big, big step. You see him kind of do a little bit towards the last season, and now this point shoot, I said it's time. Now it's your time to show the team. You need to go ahead and make that happen."

For Vikings fans, the trade was a tough pill to swallow—but Greenard's endorsement of Turner makes it clear the franchise is betting on a bright future. And for Eagles fans, they're getting a proven veteran who still has plenty left in the tank.
