As the NBA offseason heats up, all eyes are on LeBron James—and both Los Angeles teams are in the mix. If the 23-season veteran doesn't retire this summer, he'll enter unrestricted free agency, leaving fans to wonder: will he stay with the Lakers, or could he cross town to the Clippers?

After eight straight years in purple and gold, re-signing with the Lakers seems like the obvious move. But not everyone thinks it's the best one. Liam McKeone of Sports Illustrated ranked the Lakers as just the No. 3 landing spot for LeBron, calling it "the lamest choice." Instead, he suggests a championship push with the Golden State Warriors or a homecoming to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Still, staying with the Lakers has its perks. LeBron can keep his family in Los Angeles and get another shot at a deep playoff run alongside Austin Reaves and Luka Doncic—especially after injuries derailed their postseason hopes this year.

If a deal with the Lakers falls through, don't count out the Clippers. McKeone notes that LeBron might consider them if his top priority is staying in L.A. The Clippers could also offer a bigger paycheck. But there's a catch: while pairing LeBron with Kawhi Leonard sounds thrilling, the Clippers aren't exactly championship favorites. And as LeBron's agent Rich Paul made clear last summer, the King wants to compete for titles—not just collect a check.

Whether he returns to the Lakers, joins the Clippers, or surprises everyone, LeBron's free agency decision will shape the NBA landscape for years to come.
