It's been a whirlwind week for Boston Red Sox pitching prospect Anthony Eyanson—and that might be an understatement. The 21-year-old right-hander, selected in the third round of the 2025 MLB Draft out of LSU, started the week in High-A Greenville and ended it making his Double-A debut for the Portland Sea Dogs on Sunday afternoon. Along the way, he also vaulted from unranked status into Baseball America's Top 100 prospects list, landing comfortably in the top 50.

Eyanson was initially viewed as a high-floor, low-ceiling pick by the Red Sox front office. But an unexpected jump in velocity, combined with dominant performances on the mound, has turned him into the organization's fastest-rising arm. In his first five professional starts with Greenville, Eyanson was nearly untouchable: he allowed just one run on seven hits while striking out 34 batters against only three walks. His 47.6% strikeout rate was the highest at the level by a wide margin, turning heads across the minor league landscape.

That level of dominance made the decision to promote him an easy one. After just five starts in High-A, Boston's brass gave Eyanson the call to Double-A. For context, fellow Red Sox prospect Payton Tolle—who started 2025 in Greenville and finished the year in Boston—didn't get promoted to Portland until June 22, after 11 appearances at the lower level.

Eyanson was originally scheduled to make his Double-A debut on Saturday, but storms sweeping through New England pushed the game back a day. When he finally took the mound Sunday, he wasted no time making an impression, racking up four strikeouts and showing exactly why his stock is soaring. For Red Sox fans, this is a name to watch closely—and a reminder that sometimes, the best prospects come out of nowhere.
