The Boston Celtics might have been bounced from the first round of the 2026 NBA Playoffs, but there's finally some news that has Green Teamers smiling. Fan-favorite Isaiah Thomas is officially back in Boston—this time in a front-office role as a pro and college scout.

According to Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe, the two-time Celtics star has rejoined the organization to help evaluate talent. Based in Seattle, Thomas will cover the West Coast, a region that's become a hotbed for NBA prospects. It's a natural fit for the Tacoma native, who knows the game inside and out.

Thomas isn't wasting any time getting started. He's already been spotted at the NBA Combine in Chicago this week, talking with potential draftees. With the Celtics holding the No. 27 and No. 40 picks in the 2026 NBA Draft, and President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens focused on adding depth, Thomas's scouting eye could be a game-changer.

It's a new chapter for the 5-foot-9 superstar, who was still playing in the G League as recently as last year and logged minutes with the Phoenix Suns in 2024. While other teams had considered bringing him back to the court, Thomas seems ready to pivot to talent evaluation—and the Celtics, who have always cheered him on from afar, are thrilled to have him back in the fold.

Head coach Joe Mazzulla summed it up best when asked about Thomas's return last December: "He's done so much for the city and really for the organization. When you're a high-character guy, people appreciate you and you're able to leave the place a little better than you found it."

Welcome home, Isaiah. The Celtics family has missed you.
