Borussia Dortmund are making a serious push to sign Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Garcia, with talks already underway between the German club and the player's representatives, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The 22-year-old Spanish striker burst onto the scene during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, where he emerged as one of the tournament's top scorers. That breakout performance had many at the Santiago Bernabéu believing he could become a key part of Real Madrid's long-term attacking plans.

However, the months that followed told a different story. Despite his impressive form, consistent first-team minutes never materialized for the Madrid-born forward, mainly due to the fierce competition ahead of him in Carlo Ancelotti's star-studded squad. While both Xabi Alonso and Álvaro Arbeloa—who coached him at youth level—praised his attitude and quality, opportunities remained scarce throughout the campaign.

That logjam has now opened the door for Borussia Dortmund to make their move. The Bundesliga giants are preparing an ambitious sporting project centered around Garcia, viewing him as a potential long-term successor to Serhou Guirassy. Dortmund's interest is serious, with reports from Germany confirming they've already begun negotiations with the player's camp.

Dortmund are exploring different deal structures, including a loan with an option to buy, or an agreement involving 50% of the player's rights. The transfer fee could range between €20 million and €35 million, depending on the final structure.

But there's one condition Real Madrid are unlikely to budge on: the Spanish champions want to retain significant control over Garcia's future through a feasible buy-back clause. Without that safeguard, don't expect the Bernabéu brass to let their promising homegrown talent leave without a safety net.

For Dortmund, this represents a classic Bundesliga move—identifying a talented young player stuck behind superstars and offering him the platform to become a star in his own right. For Garcia, it could be the perfect opportunity to finally get the regular minutes his breakout form deserves.
