The race to secure Werder Bremen's rising star Mio Backhaus is heating up, with Borussia Dortmund now joining the chase. According to DeichStube, the Bundesliga giants have made inquiries about the 22-year-old goalkeeper, viewing him as a potential long-term successor to their current No. 1, Gregor Kobel.

Backhaus, who has been turning heads with his composure and shot-stopping ability, is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after young keepers in Europe. Premier League side Newcastle United have reportedly already made contact with his representatives, adding to the growing international interest.

But the list doesn't stop there. Serie A powerhouses AC Milan and Inter, along with Brighton & Hove Albion, Bayer Leverkusen, and SC Freiburg, have all been linked with the promising shot-stopper. Despite the flurry of attention, Werder Bremen have yet to receive any formal offers for their prized asset.

Should Backhaus eventually move on, the club appears to have a contingency plan in place. Arsenal loanee Karl Hein could be signed permanently through a purchase option, ensuring a smooth transition between the posts.

For now, all eyes are on Dortmund as they look to bolster their goalkeeping ranks for the future—a move that could shape their defensive spine for years to come.
