Boris Becker, the legendary German tennis icon, has officially closed the chapter on his coaching career. Despite receiving multiple offers from top players, the three-time Wimbledon champion confirmed at the Laureus Sports Awards that his time on the training court is over.
"I've had a wonderful time, but my time as a coach is over," Becker stated. He cited a new addition to his family and other career ambitions as key reasons for his decision. "I simply have other career plans for my life," he added, noting his increased focus on media work, which would be incompatible with the demanding, full-time schedule of a touring coach.
Becker's coaching pedigree is unquestionable, having guided Novak Djokovic through a dominant period that added several Grand Slam titles to the Serb's collection. He also worked with Danish star Holger Rune and served as Head of Men's Tennis for the German Tennis Federation.
While he has ruled out a formal return, Becker emphasized he remains a resource for the game's elite. "I'm open to phone calls if any of the lads want to get in touch," he said, offering to provide discreet advice. "I always share my views with them... but without me returning to the training ground." For now, one of tennis's most formidable minds is trading the player's box for new ventures off the court.
