In a thrilling comeback that showcased the never-say-die spirit of small-town softball, Bolton rallied from behind to take down Chazy 9-5 on Friday. Trailing 4-3 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, the Eagles exploded for five runs, completely flipping the script and seizing control of the game.
Leading the charge was Jadynn Egloff, who not only earned the win from the circle with six strikeouts but also delivered at the plate in a big way. Egloff went 2-for-4 with a triple and an impressive five RBIs, proving that in softball, the best pitchers can also be game-changers with the bat.
She wasn't alone in the offensive showcase. Thea Kennedy had a perfect day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two RBIs, while Carly Smith also chipped in with a double. For Chazy, Gwyn Compeau and Peyton Turek each doubled in a losing effort, showing that even in defeat, there were bright spots.
Around the league, other teams were making their own statements. In Champlain, NCCS's Tess Dumas was dominant, striking out 11 batters and allowing just five hits in a 4-2 win over Saranac. The Cougars' offense backed her up with 10 hits, led by Emma Guay's perfect 3-for-3 day. "Tess Dumas had a great day on the mound," head coach Carrie McComb said. "We finally were able to hit the ball well... We truly showed a lot of grit today."
Under the lights in Lake Placid, NAC put on a fireworks show of their own, plating 16 runs in a 16-9 victory. Olivia Minckler and Mendell Chappell each had two hits, while Victoria LaBombard doubled. Grace Cook earned the win with nine strikeouts and just three walks, keeping the Bobcats in control throughout.
And in Mudville, Ti battled both opponents and the elements in a doubleheader. After falling 3-1 to Tuckahoe in a rematch of last year's Class C state semifinal, Ti bounced back with an 11-3 win over Nichols in a game cut short by rain. The highlight came when Cayleigh Handel launched a two-run home run over the centerfield fence, a blast that seemed to carry the team's momentum into the final stretch of the regular season.
