In a stunning move that reshapes the high school soccer scene in Northeast Florida, The Bolles School has secured a coaching legend. The school announced on April 17th that Mike Pickett, the architect of a dynasty at St. Johns Country Day School with a state-record-tying 15 FHSAA championships, is taking over their girls' soccer program.
Pickett's resume is nothing short of historic. After 28 years and 572 wins with the Spartans, he stepped down in March, leaving behind a legacy that includes an incredible run of 11 consecutive state titles from 2012 to 2022, plus championships in 2005, 2007, 2009, and 2025. His tenure featured mind-boggling streaks, including 23 straight district championships and 76 consecutive victories.
He takes the reins from Matt Tracy, who retired in February after a stellar 21-season run at Bolles that yielded six state championships and 358 wins. This transition connects two of Florida's most decorated programs; St. Johns Country Day leads with 15 state titles, while Bolles sits at a formidable nine.
For Bolles, coming off a 9-10-4 season that ended in the second round of regionals, hiring Pickett signals a powerful intent to return to the pinnacle of the sport. The coach, a St. Johns alumnus himself, is a three-time Florida Dairy Farmers Coach of the Year and led teams to national #1 rankings in 2017, 2018, and 2021.
All eyes will now be on District 3-3A, where Bolles is tentatively slated to compete for the 2026-27 season. With a proven winner like Pickett now on the sidelines, the expectations in Jacksonville have instantly skyrocketed, setting the stage for an exciting new chapter in Florida high school soccer.
