Newly released body camera footage has provided a clearer, more humanizing picture of the moments following Tiger Woods's recent car crash in Florida. The video, obtained by the USA TODAY Network, shows the 50-year-old golf legend being transported from the scene on March 27th, wearing a blue golf shirt and appearing to briefly doze off during the 17-minute ride.
The incident, a two-vehicle rollover on Jupiter Island near Woods's home, resulted in no serious injuries. However, the aftermath took a serious turn. According to the arrest affidavit, officers reported Woods was "sweating profusely" with "bloodshot and glassy" eyes at the scene. He told deputies he had been looking at his phone and changing the radio station just before the crash.
While a breath test showed no alcohol in his system, Woods failed a field sobriety test and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The affidavit states two hydrocodone painkiller pills were found in his pocket, and Woods later told deputies he had taken prescription pain medication earlier that day. He was charged with DUI and failure to submit to a test, posting $1,150 bail and being released later that night.
In a development following the release of the footage, a Martin County judge granted a request from Woods's attorney to allow him to travel internationally for treatment. This event is another challenging chapter for the athlete, whose legendary career has been marked by incredible comebacks both on and off the course. For fans and the sports community, it underscores the intense physical and mental demands faced by elite athletes long after the competition ends.
