The Giants created a massive opening on their defensive line after trading All-Pro defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence to the Bengals last weekend.

Following the blockbuster move they said that they’d be looking to fill that void with veteran additions in free agency and potentially during the NFL draft.

While they didn’t go that route during the early rounds, they did make an addition later on, selecting Bobby Jamison-Travis with their first pick on Day 3.

Jamison-Travis was a First Team All-American at Iowa Western Community College before becoming a staple in the middle of Auburn’s d-line the past three seasons.

The 24-year-old finished with just one sack and 56 tackles during his time with the Tigers, but the running game was where he truly excelled.

“I consider myself a run-stopper,” Jamison-Travis told Brandon London of giants.com. “I’m gonna do everything that’s possible to stop the run -- that’s my pride.”

He certainly showed that during his best and final season with Auburn, finishing with the fourth-best run-stop percentage in college football (12.1).

That also ranked as the second-best among DT’s in this draft class, only trailing Ohio State’s Kayden McDonald, a second-round target Big Blue missed out on.

New York, of course, has struggled mightily slowing down the run game the past few seasons.

They still need to bring in a starting-caliber veteran to make up for the loss of Lawrence, but the 330-pound nose tackle has the skillset to develop into rotational piece for this defense.

“It’s really just a blessing for them to draft me,” he said. “I can’t wait to get to work.”
