Bob Uecker is already one of Milwaukee's biggest legends—and soon, that won't just be a figure of speech. The beloved voice of the Milwaukee Brewers is getting a massive 80-foot-by-100-foot mural in downtown Milwaukee, as announced by the Milwaukee Downtown Business Improvement District No. 21.
Mr. Baseball, who graced the airwaves for over 50 years as the Crew's play-by-play announcer, will be honored with a vibrant tribute that captures his most iconic role. "Bob loved Milwaukee, and greatly appreciated the connection he had with the city," said Bob Uecker Jr. in the announcement. "This mural will serve as a reminder of the enduring relationship between the two."
Artist Mauricio Ramirez—who previously created the towering three-story Giannis Antetokounmpo mural downtown—has been commissioned to bring Uecker's legacy to life on the north façade of 731 N. Jackson St. The project is backed by the Wintrust Financial Center ownership group, with support from BID No. 21 and Visit Milwaukee. "It's a huge honor to create a mural celebrating Bob Uecker," Ramirez shared. "What he means to Milwaukee and to sports broadcasting is incredibly important."
Uecker's impact stretched far beyond the broadcast booth. A former Major League catcher, he became a film and television icon, a veteran, and a beloved figure in sports culture. He passed away in January 2025 at age 90 after a private battle with small-cell lung cancer.
Ramirez has already started work on the mural, which is slated for completion in early June. Once finished, expect a tailgate-themed ribbon-cutting celebration hosted by project organizers, the Uecker family, and the Brewers themselves. Whether you're a die-hard fan or just appreciate a good sports story, this mural is one more reason to love Milwaukee—and to wear your Brewers gear with pride.
