UCLA is finally overcoming last season’s mistakes. After going 3-9 into the season and acing mid season firing of head coach DeShaun Foster, the team was facing a tough time.

UCLA football is writing a remarkable comeback story, and it's one that every fan—and yes, even the apparel-wearing faithful—should be excited about. After a painful 3-9 season that saw head coach DeShaun Foster fired midyear, the Bruins looked like a program in turmoil. Losing 28 players to the transfer portal only deepened the concern. But under new head coach Bob Chesney, the tide has turned in a big way.

The 2027 recruiting class is already making noise, jumping from No. 59 nationally to around No. 10—a stunning leap that signals real momentum. UCLA has secured 12 new commitments so far, including seven four-star recruits: Zac Fares, Colton McKibben, Pole Moala, Khalil Terry, Jackson Roper, Jerry Outhouse Jr., and George Toia. These aren't just names on a list; they're players who can make an immediate impact on the field. The Bruins have also added strong three-star talents like Jackson Hill, Mike Davis Jr., Cain Brackney, Michael Farinas, and Montana Toilolo, many of whom are on the cusp of four-star status.

What's truly remarkable is how these commitments are happening. Four-star cornerback Jerry Outhouse Jr. chose UCLA over powerhouse Georgia without even taking an official visit. He's not alone—OL Jackson Roper, running back Jayshon Gibson, DL George Toia, and safety Khalil Terry all joined without stepping foot on campus for an official visit. In just three days, the Bruins landed five blue-chip recruits sight unseen. As reporter David Woods noted, that kind of recruiting pull is rare, especially for a team coming off a losing season.

So how is Chesney pulling this off? He points to something bigger than wins and losses. "We're sitting in as a coaching staff at a university, it's the number one public university in the country, right, and then you add in the fact that it's the most applied to school in the country, I think an 8% acceptance rate, so 100 people apply, 92 don't get in—that's elite," Chesney told reporters. "What happens on this campus, you can't replicate."

For UCLA fans, the message is clear: the foundation is rock solid, and the best is yet to come. Whether you're stocking up on Bruin blue for game day or just love a good underdog story, this is a program worth watching.
