Blue Jays take road slide into matchup with the Tigers

The Toronto Blue Jays are heading into Detroit with a tough challenge ahead—they're looking to snap a five-game road losing streak when they take on the Tigers this Saturday. It's been a rough stretch for the Blue Jays, who sit at 19-25 overall and have struggled away from home with a 6-14 record on the road. Meanwhile, the Tigers aren't exactly cruising either, holding a 20-25 mark, but they've been a different team at Comerica Park, where they've gone 13-6 this season.

On the mound, the Blue Jays will send out Mason Fluharty, who's off to a solid start with a 2-0 record and a 5.40 ERA, along with 19 strikeouts over his appearances. The Tigers counter with Casey Mize, who's yet to record a decision this season. Oddsmakers have Detroit as slight favorites at -126, while Toronto comes in at +106, and the over/under is set at 8½ runs.

This is the second meeting of the season between these two AL clubs, and there's plenty of storylines to follow. For Detroit, catcher Dillon Dingler has been a bright spot, racking up nine doubles and eight home runs so far. Infielder Gage Workman has also been hot lately, going 4-for-15 with two doubles and two homers over his last 10 games. On the Blue Jays' side, third baseman Ernie Clement leads the team with a .291 batting average, adding 13 doubles and two home runs to his line. Outfielder Yohendrick Pinango has been swinging a hot bat too, collecting 12 hits in his last 34 at-bats with five RBIs.

Looking at recent form, both teams have struggled. The Tigers have gone just 2-8 in their last 10 games, hitting .204 as a team with a 4.80 ERA, and they've been outscored by 27 runs in that span. The Blue Jays haven't been much better at 3-7, though their pitching has been slightly sharper with a 3.67 ERA, and they've been outscored by just one run overall.

Injuries are a major factor for both clubs. The Tigers have a lengthy list, including key names like Gleyber Torres (oblique), Kerry Carpenter (AC joint), and veteran ace Justin Verlander (hip), along with several others on the 60-day IL. The Blue Jays are also banged up, with Jose Berrios (elbow), Max Scherzer (forearm), and Anthony Santander (sho) among those sidelined. Depth will be tested as these two teams battle it out in a pivotal early-season matchup.
