The Columbus Blue Jackets have some serious work to do this offseason. After a rough finish cost them a playoff spot, the front office needs to shake things up—and free agency offers a golden opportunity. One name that should be on their radar? Boston Bruins winger Viktor Arvidsson.

Arvidsson bounced back in a big way this season. Following a quiet 2024-25 campaign with the Edmonton Oilers, he reminded everyone why he's still a dangerous middle-six forward. In 69 games with the Bruins, he notched 25 goals and 29 assists for 54 points, with a plus-20 rating. For a Blue Jackets squad that could use a scoring boost, those numbers are hard to ignore.

Flexibility is another selling point. Arvidsson has experience on both the right and left wings, which means he could slot into Columbus's top nine without forcing a lineup shuffle. He'd also bring some much-needed skill to the power play—an area where the Blue Jackets could stand to improve.

Of course, there's the age factor. At 33, Arvidsson isn't a long-term fix. But if he's open to a short-term deal, he could be the perfect bridge player for a club trying to take the next step. The Blue Jackets are hungry to return to the playoffs in 2026-27, and adding a veteran with his pedigree would send a clear message.

And speaking of pedigree: Arvidsson has been there before. A fourth-round pick back in 2014, he's suited up for 91 career playoff games—including two Stanley Cup Final appearances. That kind of experience is invaluable for a young team learning how to win.

Bottom line: Columbus needs more skill, and Arvidsson is one of the top forwards set to hit the open market. If the price is right, he'd be a smart target for a team ready to compete.
