The Riverland Community College baseball team saw its season come to a close on Saturday, falling to Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC) 9-1 in a Region XIII elimination game played in St. Cloud. The loss, combined with an earlier 3-1 defeat to St. Cloud Tech, ended the Blue Devils' campaign with a solid 34-15 overall record.
In the first game against St. Cloud Tech, Riverland's pitching staff delivered a strong effort, but the offense struggled to find its rhythm. Kahlil Fernandez took the loss after pitching a complete nine innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on 11 hits with four walks and one strikeout. At the plate, Carson Gehrke had a standout performance, going 2-for-4 with a triple and scoring the team's only run.
The elimination game against RCTC proved more challenging. Peyton Ransom started on the mound but lasted just 2 1/3 innings, surrendering five earned runs on five hits. Ben Helfer and Alexander Zapata also saw action, with Zapata providing a bright spot by throwing two scoreless innings. Offensively, Jonathan Mora continued his hot hitting with a 2-for-3 performance that included a walk, while Roland Figueroa and Christiaan Koehler each contributed a hit.
Despite the tough finish, the Blue Devils can take pride in a season that saw them win 34 games and compete at a high level in Region XIII. For fans looking to gear up like their favorite players, Riverland baseball apparel is the perfect way to show support as the team looks ahead to next season.
