The Birmingham Stallions are proving that in the UFL, survival is just as important as style. After a dramatic 21-17 overtime victory over the Dallas Renegades on Saturday night, the Stallions now sit tied for fourth in the league standings with a 3-4 record—a logjam they share with the Louisville Kings. With only three weeks left in the regular season and the top four teams making the playoffs, every snap feels like a must-win.
The game was a rollercoaster from the opening kick. Dallas came out firing, scoring on two methodical 15-play drives in the first quarter to take a 10-0 lead. But the Stallions, known for their resilience, clawed back. Quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson found wide receiver Daewood Davis for a 46-yard touchdown on fourth-and-11 late in the second quarter, cutting the deficit and setting the tone for a night of high-stakes football.
Birmingham tied the game at 17-17 with two minutes left in the fourth quarter, thanks to an 18-yard touchdown pass from Thompson-Robinson to Jaydon Mickens on yet another fourth-down play. It was a testament to the Stallions' aggressive mindset—and their willingness to live on the edge.
Dallas responded with a furious final drive, marching 31 yards in eight plays to set up a 53-yard field goal attempt as time expired. But the Renegades' hopes were dashed when defensive tackle Jayden Peevy burst through the line to block Colton Theaker's kick, sending the game to overtime. "He's been awesome," said Birmingham coach AJ McCarron of Peevy, who was cut by Orlando earlier this season. "He deserves to be on an NFL team after this season."
In overtime, Thompson-Robinson delivered the knockout punch with two decisive plays, sealing a victory that Stallions players described as "smelling the blood in the water." For a team fighting for playoff survival, that kind of killer instinct might be exactly what they need to keep their championship hopes alive.
