BIG Update on 76ers Pursuing Joel Embiid Trade This Summer, Including Rumored All-Star Return

The Philadelphia 76ers are reportedly exploring a Joel Embiid trade this summer, but don't expect a blockbuster deal to materialize quickly. While the team would love to move on from the one-time MVP, a new report indicates it's unlikely—though one rival executive believes a specific team could step up and offer an All-Star in return.

Just over a week ago, the Sixers were riding high. After pulling off a stunning comeback from a 3-1 deficit to eliminate the Boston Celtics in the first round, many analysts pegged them as Eastern Conference favorites to reach the NBA Finals. Then the New York Knicks happened. A brutal sweep sent Philadelphia packing, and the fallout has been swift.

Change arrived Tuesday when the team parted ways with president of basketball operations Daryl Morey. Head coach Nick Nurse will return for at least one more season, but the biggest question mark remains Embiid. The seven-time All-Star is a franchise icon, but his availability has become a serious concern.

This season, even with careful load management, Embiid played just 38 games. When he did suit up, he averaged 26.9 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks—still elite numbers. But his massive contract—three years and $186 million remaining—combined with an extensive injury history makes him a tough sell on the trade market.

According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, the Sixers would likely need to attach future draft assets to move Embiid. However, with incoming changes to the NBA Draft lottery rules that improve the odds for teams in the bottom 16, clubs are becoming less willing to part with first-round picks. "I've been advised to expect no definitive effort this offseason to try to offload Embiid," Fischer reported Wednesday morning.

Still, there's a glimmer of hope for fans ready to turn the page. Fischer hinted that one team might be willing to take a swing on Embiid, potentially sending an All-Star back to Philly in the process. While details remain scarce, the rumor mill is just heating up—and for a franchise facing a pivotal summer, every possibility is on the table.
