The Big Ten Tournament is heating up, and all eyes are on the #2 seed Nebraska Cornhuskers as they prepare to face the Michigan Wolverines in the quarterfinals. Michigan punched their ticket by routing Ohio State in a decisive 9-0, five-inning run-rule victory, setting the stage for a rematch that promises plenty of drama.

Nebraska swept Michigan in their conference opener earlier this season, but those games were far from easy. The Huskers will need to bring the same explosive bats that dominated the final nine innings of their series against Penn State. Offensively, Nebraska holds a clear edge, and their pitching advantage is even more pronounced. If they execute, they should advance.

Michigan’s gamble in the opening round—starting #2 pitcher Lorin Boutte, who carries a 5.99 ERA and 2.270 WHIP—backfired spectacularly. The Wolverines turned to ace Gabby Ellis (12-8, 4.08 ERA, 1.360 WHIP), and their offense crushed both pitchers. Expect Michigan to counter with Erin Hoehn (8-5, 4.38 ERA, 1.680 WHIP) against the Huskers. Nebraska hit her hard in their 8-4 win earlier this season, so they’ll look to replicate that success.

For the Huskers, Jordy Frahm (16-4, 1.26 ERA, 0.880 WHIP) is the likely starter. If Nebraska advances, keep an eye on the bullpen strategy—Alexis Jensen could get the nod in the semifinals, but with a very short leash and Frahm ready to step in.

Michigan finished the regular season in a three-way tie for ninth but won the tiebreaker to secure the #9 seed. Despite being the underdog on paper, the Wolverines have a rich tournament history, including a stunning 2025 Big Ten title run where they upset #9 UCLA. They view this tournament as their birthright, making this a dangerous matchup for the Huskers.

The game takes place at Maryland Softball Stadium in College Park, MD, with all action broadcast on the Big Ten Network. Thursday’s forecast calls for beautiful, partly cloudy skies, light winds of 5-10 mph, and temperatures around 80 degrees—perfect conditions for a high-stakes showdown.
