The Big Ten Conference is proving that success on the field translates to success in the bank. Fresh off a historic run that includes three straight football national titles, a women's basketball championship, and a long-awaited men's basketball crown—ending a 26-year drought—the league is cashing in like never before.
On May 1, the conference announced a record-breaking $1.37 billion distribution to its 18 member schools for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025. That works out to about $72 million per school, though newcomers Washington and Oregon will receive reduced shares as they settle into their new home. The total is a staggering $490 million jump from last year's distribution, marking the largest payout in Big Ten history.
This financial windfall is the first full year of the conference's new media rights deals, which kicked in alongside an unprecedented stretch of championship dominance. The Big Ten has essentially taken the championship belt from the SEC and is now eyeing the TV ratings throne as well.
"The distributions provide meaningful support to institutions in their continued effort to provide broad-based athletic opportunities to more than 14,000 Big Ten student-athletes," the league said in a statement.
For fans and athletes alike, this historic payout is a clear sign that the Big Ten's reign is just getting started—both on the scoreboard and the balance sheet. Whether you're repping your school's gear or just enjoying the ride, it's an exciting time to be part of the conference.
