Alabama football has secured its first commitment for the class of 2028, and this quarterback won't be confused with a pocket passer of the Bryce Young mold. Charles Scott Jr., a rising junior from Huguenot High School in Richmond, Virginia, is already a towering presence at 6-foot-5 and 255 pounds—a frame that evokes comparisons to former NFL quarterback Byron Leftwich.
Scott plays for his father, Charles Scott Sr., and his size is hard to miss. For perspective, he towers over a teammate listed at 6-foot-2, as seen in photos from a recent visit to Virginia Tech. This big-bodied signal-caller fits the trend of larger offenses, and the Kalen DeBoer coaching staff has made size a priority under center.
Alabama's quarterback room is already filled with big frames. Austin Mack, who followed DeBoer from Washington, stands at 6-foot-6 and 232 pounds. Keelon Russell is 6-foot-3, while incoming freshmen Jett Thomalla (6-foot-4, 229 pounds) and Tayden Kaawa (6-foot-5, 238 pounds) add to the depth. Even preferred walk-on John Gazzaniga checks in at 6-foot-7, 245 pounds. The only outlier? 2027 commit Trent Seaborn at 6-foot-1, 200 pounds.
Scott's sophomore stats back up the hype. He completed 178 of 285 passes (62.7%) for 3,594 yards and 41 touchdowns against just four interceptions. He also rushed for 115 yards and eight scores on 22 carries. His 2025 season included 12 games with 200+ passing yards, four with 300+, and one with 400+. In one standout game, he threw for seven touchdowns.
BamaOnLine caught up with his father and coach, Charles Scott Sr., who said: "Obviously he's a good football player, but there's room for growth. The Alabama staff talked about that, how they would develop him." With this commitment, the Crimson Tide's future under center looks both big and bright.
